Hvis du har installeret linuxconf kunne du jo prøve
at starte det!

Der burde komme en menu op, med noget a la:

- Networking
  + Client tasks
  + Server tasks
  + Misc

Klik på plusserne for at folde undermenuerne ud.

Hvilket netkort har du? ISA? PCI?

Hvis du ikke lige ved, hvad det er for kort,
er følgende tricks gode:

Hvis det er et ISA kort, hvad står der på den
største chip på kortet?

Hvis det er et PCI kort så prøv at poste indholdet
i filen /proc/pci - ja, den ser umiddelbart tom ud,
men så prøv med:

cat /proc/pci

Fx får jeg bl. a.:

  Bus  0, device  11, function  0:
    Ethernet controller: DEC DC21040 (rev 36).
      Medium devsel.  Fast back-to-back capable.  IRQ 3.  Master
Capable.  Latency=32.  
      I/O at 0xe800 [0xe801].
      Non-prefetchable 32 bit memory at 0xde000000 [0xde000000].

Lidt søgning på nettet vil afsløre, at "DEC DC21040" kræver tulip
driveren.

Under "Client tasks", "Basic host information" kan du angive dit
hostnavn og
under "Adaptor 1" kan du angive navn, ip nummer, netmaske, device (eth0)
og kernemodul, i mit tilfælde skal der stå tulip.

Du kan også vælge at få tildelt IP nummeret via DHCP, hvis du
fx har en anden maskine eller en (ISDN eller ADSL) router, der
tildeler den slags.

For PCI kort skal man ikke skrive I/O port eller interrupt nr, det
finder
driveren selv ud af.
